I know some of you are thinking - wait Jessie it's still AUGUST!

Alas, I am a planner through and through and I want your Fall Family Portraits to run smoothly. Whether you are booking with me or someone else these Do's and Do Not's are a great starting point when planning your session.

Do

Select a location that represents the ebb + flow of the season. Fall is such a magical time, and if you love earth tones as much as I do, there is so much magic to be made! Whether you are looking for a big grassy field or a pumpkin patch fall has it all.

Don't

Steer clear of bright colored walls etc, don't get me wrong you can totally rock an urban fall session, but save the neon backdrops for springtime!

Do

Select outfits that fit your style, the location, and the season. The most important thing is that you are comfortable. When you style your outfits so that they compliment each other, as well as the landscape, it truly makes your portraits timeless. For fall I recommend to all my clients to stick to earth tones since I shoot outdoors. Small prints here as well as layers, and different textures can take your portraits from BLAH to WOWZA!

Don't

Avoid bright colored clothing and bold prints. These types of clothing can not only take away from the scenery, they can be really distracting when looking at your portraits. I want my clients to be the main focus of the image versus dad's sick Hawaiian tee shirt, yes even if it's vintage.

Do

Come prepared to have FUN! That's what these sessions are all about, playing games and loving on your fam bam. When you book with me, you're booking with a mom of 2 and someone who worked in early childhood education. I am here to embrace your shy child, or help redirect your energetic one! All I need my clients to do is make sure everyone naps and eats before their session, I will take care of the rest!

Don't

Do not overcomplicate this or stress yourself out! Try to come with minimal expectations. I mean this in the BEST way, don't be concerned if your kid is acting, well, like a kid. This isn't my first rodeo and sometimes it takes a few minutes for your kids to warm up to the idea of a giant camera being shoved in their face! So try to be as light hearted about it all as possible, and let the session unfold naturally. I allow plenty of time for play and exploring for your littles, and a few breaks for your teenagers, who may at that stage in life may want to be anywhere but at a photoshoot.

Just because it's almost spooky szn doesn't mean your Fall Family Portrait session has to be scary.

Seriously, with these tips you're sure to have an epic session. I have officially opened my books for fall family portraits! I will have more announcements soon about locations, fall "short" sessions, and much more! Fill out the contact form and sign up for my newsletter to be "in the know" and on my books! I will have a limited number of dates available this fall. I can't wait to create with you and your family!
